Worked in a reseach project with CETARS program under the supervision of Dr. Marco A. De Jesús. Description of career experience (what I learned): I worked in the
development a new method to find bacteria in food. I used Raman Spectroscopy and a electroevaporisator to synthetize silver nanoparticles.
What is your perception of agriculture now:
It is vital for the subsistence of the entire humanity. We can Learn and development new technologies to increase nutritional facts and healthier food.
How has this career experience broadened your employment opportunities?
I learned how to use Raman spectroscopy and how to analyze bacteria in a PDMS with silver nanoparticles. Know about these techniques would open doors in the future.
Career and research aspirations:
I aspire to finish my B.S. then complete a M.S. in Food Chemistry or related field. In five years, I see myself with graduate degree and working in the USDA. In ten years I
want to be an Agency’s Director in one of the USDA agencies, preferably FNS.
Bilingual-Spanish/English –computer literate-Office –leadership skills –microbiological techniques – good working in groups –fast learning.
The impact of my career experience:
The undergraduate research experience gave to me another vision of the importance of the food science. Actually the agriculural science and related fields is increasing to
provide better services, safety and healthy food. I want to be one of these scientist and contribute in the development of techniques to ensure the safety, quality and health
of the agriculural products. I will love to work in at USDA, where I can contribute with my knowledge, efforts and dedication to increase food safety.
