Description of career experience (what I learned):

I worked on the preparation of certificates of plant variety protection office in the AMS program. I verified the documents submitted by the farmers for the protection of

their crops by these certificates.

What is your perception of agriculture now:

It is an essential part for the survival of the human species. We must learn to use new methods and technologies to increase agricultural production of our land to feed a

growing human population.

How has this career experience broadened your employment opportunities:

I learned to use a computer program “STARS” where you start the applications for certification of seeds; it is used to enter the data sent by the farmers to Plant Variety

Protection Office.

Career and research aspirations:

I aspire to finish first my baccalaureate degree in agricultural extension, and then my master’s degree in the same field. Then find work at the USDA-AMS in Washington DC

or the Department of Agriculture in Puerto Rico. I will put my effort and dedication to be one of the best Puerto Rico’s agricultural extensions.

The impact of my career experience:

The experiences as an assistant at the USDA -AMS has given me the skills to become a competent professional in the near futur. I worked with the database AMS program. I

learned to use new methods of analysis and new techniques for the processing of new applications. These experiences prepared me to compete in the labor market especially

in the USDA. My long term goals are to find a USDA -AMS position . This experience has helped me to know the methods of protecion seeds across the American nation and

allowed me to meet and work with specialists of the program. It also gave me the opportunity to show that I am a highly motivated , person qualified to occupy a position in

AMS program . My long-term goal is to work as a resource to farmers and people interested in agriculture all over the USA .
