Career cxperience/location:

Worked in the research laboratories of Dr. Felix Roman, found in the Department of Chemistry, University of Puerto Rico Myaguez Campus, synthesizing a variety of cross

-linked chitosan beats.

Description of career experience (what I learned):

Through experimentation, I have gained knowledge on Chitosan benefits, strengths, imperfections and how they are able to attach different pollutants. I have learned to

prepare solutions of chitosan-cellulose, chitosan-glutaraldehyde and others in order to improve the mechanism and structure of the bead.

What is your perception of agriculture now?:

Agriculture is the set of skills and knowledge to cultivate the land. It comprises a set of human actions that transforms the natural environment to make it more suitable for

the growth of crops.

How has this career experience broadened your employment opportunities:

I’m currently learning how to use the HPLC to identify and quantify the components in various mixtures. By learning how to manage this technique, I can expand my

knowledge for future employment.

Career and research aspirations:

I aspire to finish my BA in Chemistry and begin Graduate studies in Chemistry or Pharmacology. To collaborate in the USDA-ARS program is one of my primary options. In

10 years, I visualize myself working in research laboratories. Later, I would like to educate future chemists as a profesor.

Skill Set:

Bilingual-English/Spanish-computer-Office 2010- Excel- Analitical techniques- microscopy- leadership- HPLC-biology- chemistry- presentations-Power Points- meeting

participation- Decision-making- motivation- teamwork-patience- resposability- analytical balance- UV- Specthophomer- Planning-organizing- time and project

management.

The impact of my career experience:

By working in the analytical laboratory, I acquired various skills that can help me keep up with more complex and demanding jobs. I have learned how to organize my time

in order to work under pressure and with limits. Over time, I hope to be sufficiently trained to perform more advanced research and analysis. During my time in research, I

did several synthesis of cross-linked chitosan to decontaminate the environment through adsorption. My long term goal is to be a part of several animal and vegetable

health- Sample page in 12 pt font related researches. Another of my aspirations is to work as a pharmaceutical or in the food chemistry research department.
