Career experience/location:

Internship: Simultaneous adsorption of cationic and anionic dyes onto biosorbents for wastewaters treatment at University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez Campus.

 

Description of career experience (what I learned):

I learned all the necessary skill to be a good leader, such as initiative to solve situations under my control, ability and commitment to teamwork, and most important,

responsibility. Also, I demonstrated a willingness and desire to learn and to create an environment to continuous improvement.

 

What is your perception of agriculture now?

Since I was accepted to CETARS proposal, I understood much better about agriculture, and learn that this term is not only planting and harvesting.

 

How has this career experience broadened your employment opportunities?

I learned to work in strict conditions which allowed me to develop as a good researcher, good leader and responsible. Being a good leader and responsible is the most

powerful tool for an employment opportunity.

 

Career and research aspirations:

I want to make an important and practical contribution for the preservation and conservation of the environment. Once I complete my master’s degree, I want to obtain a

doctoral degree in Environmental Chemistry where I can apply my skills and continue conducting research whose main objective is the preservation of the environment. In

10 years I expected to work for an agency under USDA such as ARS, FSIS, NRCS, NIFA, RMA, or APHIS.

 

Skill Set:

Computational Chemistry skills Analytical Techniques such as: HPLC Techniques-ATR-FTIR Techniques-Data base management-leadership.

 

The impact of my career experience:

My career experience as an intern with the Center for Education and Training in Agriculture and Related Sciences (CETARS) Proposal at University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez

Campus, I had the opportunity to work with my thesis research. During this internship, I enriched the knowledge in HPLC analysis in conjunction with other analytical skills

. With this research I want to make an important and practical contribution for the preservation and conservation of the environment. Once I complete my master’s degree,

I want to obtain a doctoral degree in Environmental Chemistry to apply my skills and continue conducting research with the main objective of the preservate our

environment. Moreover, with these experiences and knowledge, I expected to work for an environmental agency as a scientist to contribute for their missions of protect the

environment. For my long term objective, I expected to use my knowledge to educate students and community about the preservation and conservation of our

environment and enjoy it.
