Research Project: Electrochemical Method for Removal of Some Heavy Metals in Soils of Island of Vieques, Puerto Rico.
Since August 2011 I have been developing the research project based on using an electrochemical method for the extraction of heavy metals in soils of the island of Vieques, Puerto Rico. Among the analyzed heavy metals are copper (Cu), lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), zinc (Zn) and cadmium (Cd). The studied soils were used as a store of military equipment used by the Navy of the United States.
I will be participating in the CETARS-UPRH Program and in outreach activities at public schools. One activity was the presentation of CETARS Proposal objectives to a group of high school teachers in the East area of Puerto Rico. I will participate in seminars and workshops to High School Students of the area East of Puerto Rico; also on workshops in agriculture and environmental chemistry, to teachers and High School Students in summer-2012, in the facilities of the Department of Chemistry, UPRHumacao.
