Research Project: Bioactive agents’ detection with metal nanocomposites by Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS).

The research is focus on developing metal-polymer nanostructures as SERS biosensing platform to characterize the bacteria’s behavior on a metal surface. The first studies will be conductedwith non-harmful, for human health, bacteria, probiotics. Afterwards the same procedure will be applied to other bacteria, Escherichia Coli (E.co), which is our sample of interest.

Outreach Activities:

I will be participating program called GLOBE

Training Activities Related to CETARS:

As a requirement of the CETARS-USDA program I am taking the course, Environmental Chemistry. This course has helped me develop knowledge about environmental problems and learn techniques to analyze different environmental concerns about soils and water. In addition I took a workshop about safety procedures when dealing with bacteria. This workshop was offer by Dr. Linette Orellana of the Food Science and Technology Department (CITA, in Spanish).
